If you read the title of this article and were a bit confused, let me try and state it a little more clearly…
Our government, working with US officials, is in the final stages of discussions to approve automakers General Motors and Chrysler a 6 BILLION US$ bailout (that’s Canada’s share)… to help them prepare for bankruptcy protection!
WHAT!? Yes, the Globe and Mail has reported that our government, in all its infinite wisdom (please note the sarcasm), is on the verge of dumping even more taxpayer money down the drain.
If a business fails in your local area, should they be rewarded for their failure? Should you be forced to pay them out of your pocket so they can keep operating? Apparently, yes!
You know, there are other automotive companies operating in Canada that are doing quite well. If one automotive giant disappears, another will take its place simply because of consumer demand. Doesn’t it make more sense to reward success, not failure?
Does common sense no longer exist in Parliament? What ever happened to fiscal responsibility? This is our money, taxpayers’ money that the government is spending here. Aren’t they in office to represent us? Is this what we really want?
Something for you to think about.
If you’re angry about this development or other government bailouts in the automotive industry, you may want to visit No Bailouts.ca, which is produced by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
